Cattle
Our herd includes Miniature Jersey and Aberdeen Angus (Lowline) cattle — two smaller heritage breeds known for their gentle temperaments, efficiency on pasture, and exceptional quality.
The Miniature Jerseys provide rich, creamy milk with naturally high butterfat — perfect for wholesome dairy and butter. Their friendly nature and smaller size make them ideal for a sustainable, low-impact herd.
Our Lowline Angus are compact, efficient grazers producing beautifully marbled, flavorful beef. They thrive on grass alone and fit seamlessly into our regenerative grazing system.
Together, these breeds reflect our philosophy: raising animals humanely, working with the land, and producing food that’s as nourishing as it is responsibly raised.
Sheep
Our flock of Katahdin and Katahdin–Dorper cross sheep are perfectly adapted to our pasture-based system. These hardy, hair-sheep breeds naturally shed their wool, eliminating the need for shearing and allowing them to stay cool and comfortable through North Carolina’s changing seasons.
They’re calm, efficient grazers who play a vital role in our regenerative approach — gently trimming pastures, improving soil health, and helping maintain balance across the land. The result is tender, mild-flavored lamb that reflects both the quality of their forage and the care they receive.
Every animal is raised humanely on open grass, with fresh air, sunshine, and room to roam — just as nature intended. Their quiet presence and steady rhythm are part of what makes the farm feel alive and peaceful year-round.
Pigs
We raise two distinct pig breeds at Rambo Family Farm — KuneKune and Idaho Pasture Pigs (IPP) — both chosen for their gentle nature, excellent meat quality, and ability to thrive outdoors.
Our KuneKune pigs are small, friendly grazers from New Zealand known for their easygoing personalities and love of pasture. They’re ideal for rotational grazing and woodland foraging, helping us maintain healthy soil while living peacefully in open spaces.
Our Idaho Pasture Pigs are a newer American breed developed specifically for pasture-based farming. They’re efficient grazers and foragers with balanced growth and beautifully marbled meat. Their calm demeanor and adaptability make them a perfect fit for our regenerative system.
Each breed contributes something unique to the farm — and together, they reflect our commitment to raising happy, healthy animals in harmony with the land.
Turkeys + Chickens
Our flocks bring color, personality, and plenty of life to the farm. We raise American Bresse chickens — a heritage breed prized for their exceptional flavor, tender texture, and ability to thrive on pasture. Alongside them we keep a heavy mix of egg-laying hens that produce a rainbow of colors — blues, greens, browns, and creams — making every dozen as beautiful as it is nourishing.
We raise two heritage turkey breeds — Narragansett and Broad Breasted White. Our Narragansett turkeys are an old American heritage breed known for their striking plumage and rich, flavorful meat. Our Broad Breasted Whites are calm, hardy birds that forage across open pasture and woodland areas alongside the Narragansetts. Both breeds are raised naturally, helping to manage insects and grasses while adding grace and character to the land.
